Meet Kestrel

Lead Photographer

I found wedding photography by accident- I took portrait drawing classes when I was young, but found myself frustrated that I could never quite get people’s expressions just right. I received a small, 2.4 mega-pixel camera and began taking photos of my friends and the natural beauty of my home on the San Juan Islands.

I loved waiting for the perfect moment when someone’s joke lands perfectly and everyone laughs, and finding those pockets of perfect light to capture a portrait. As a camera shy person myself, I found that capturing people candidly or in a relaxed environment made for a far more flattering photo than a forced pose. I wanted to create images that helped people fall in love with themselves, and I still find that’s a driving inspiration behind how I document.

After studying photo-journalism in college, a friend’s sibling asked me to document their engagement and wedding back in 2011. The rest, in a round-about way, was history. My wedding career started out as a part time documentation of friends’ weddings and slowly grew into a full time career after spending several years as a kayak guide, and then working in social services in tandem with photography. Moving to Seattle in 2019 seemed like the perfect time to pursue full time photography, and I haven’t looked back since.

I grew up in the San Juan Islands, daughter to a boat captain, and have such an affinity to the ocean. I love the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, and am always finding ways to showcase the beauty of a location as well as the connections between you and your loved ones.

Weddings are such a beautiful way for your unique community to be together in a moment of time that can never be replicated - and I love telling those stories!
